Like a lot of Canadians I have a dislike in my heart for "Ottawa" - not the city, it's full of wonderful people, but "Ottawa that governs us all". I believe the "government" is full of various misguided and worse individuals whose only goal is to tax us all to death and then spend the money in as many stupid ways as possible.
So when we were in Ottawa in May and visited Parliament Hill I was hardly prepared for my reaction - I got teary-eyed as I took a few hundred pictures that day. As much as I dislike my government I love the fact that I can complain about them and not be arrested or worse as one could in any number of countries on this earth. It may not be the greatest or best system of government but it is better than almost 100% of the others I've ever seen or heard about.
And now someone we know got engaged on Parliament Hill which makes it a very sentimental and magical place. From this simple hill with these stone buildings arose the dreams of a country and the dreams of a better future for one beautiful couple.
